Malabar II was built in 1922 by Charles A. Morse & Son in Thomaston, Maine, and is now home ported in Vineyard Haven, MA. Measuring 42 feet in length with a 6-foot-4-inch draft and an 11-foot-3-inch beam, the elegant wooden vessel was designed for both speed and beauty. Owned by Jim Ginny Lobdell, the schooner has raced and cruised extensively between Virginia and Nova Scotia, as well as traveling to Bermuda. Known for her impressive racing history, she won the Bermuda Race in 1923 and again in 1926, and she continues to compete in boating events today. The schooner also gained cinematic fame with an appearance in the 1999 film Message in a Bottle.
