Cisne Branco made her maiden voyage from Lisbon, Portugal to Rio de Janeiro to celebrate the 500th anniversary of trade relations between Portugal and Brazil. The three-masted clipper ship was built in the Netherlands in 1999 and serves as the sail-training vessel for naval officers and cadets of the Brazilian Navy.

Cisne Branco’s name, meaning, “white swan”, is taken from the lyrics of the Brazilian navy anthem that compares a navy vessel to grace of a white swan.

She is the sister ship of Stad Amsterdam. Cisne Branco visited Boston in 2000 and 2004.
